Over the past few years, we’ve seen dozens of articles on the web about why you must hire a professional logo designer and spend as much as $5,000 to create a new logo unique to your business. One writer even argued that any small business owner who didn’t have that much budget for a new logo shouldn’t be starting a business in the first place.
Hearing stuff like this makes a lot of business owners worry that their logo isn’t good enough. Or that they need to spend thousands of dollars before their business is off the ground.
Nonsense.
Most small businesses will never be able to afford the marketing programs that are required to get customers to recognize and remember their logos—at least not the way that Nike or McDonald’s does it. It simply costs too much—and takes far too long. They (and maybe you) just need a simple, inexpensive logo for things like business cards and a website.
As long as your logo is professional-looking, has a simple design and icon, and features your business name in a readable font, it will do what you need it to do. The kind of logo you can make yourself is as attainable as using our free logo maker. And if you ever outgrow your do-it-yourself logo, you can hire a logo designer to update it when you have a bigger budget.
But now isn’t the time to lose sleep over your logo design.
Instead of spending your time and money on an expensive logo, focus instead on building a great reputation for your company. Deliver terrific service and great products. Focus on your customers and creating value for them.
And stop worrying that your logo isn’t good enough. Chances are, you’re worried about nothing.
