No."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Every few weeks we come across <a href=\"http:\/\/www.digimax.co.uk\/why-a-cheap-logo-design-is-bad-for-business\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"(Opens a new window)\" rel=\"noopener\">another article<\/a> written by a graphic designer touting the horrible things that will happen to your business if you buy a cheap logo.<\/p>\n<p>They often claim that cheap logos are unoriginal. Or forgettable. Or untrustworthy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Can we&nbsp;be honest for a minute?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Tens of thousands of companies have&nbsp;blown massive budgets (we<span style=\"color: #706e6e;\">\u2019<\/span>re talking millions of dollars) on logos that are both unoriginal and forgettable.<\/p>\n<p>Originality and memorability have&nbsp;<em>absolutely<\/em> nothing to do with what you pay for your&nbsp;logo design.<\/p>\n<p>To see what we mean, take a look at the following:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6089\" src=\"https:\/\/startwp.logomaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Carat-Logo.gif\" alt=\"Carat Logo Design\" width=\"350\" height=\"162\"><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6090\" src=\"https:\/\/startwp.logomaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Lexis-Nexis-Logo.jpg\" alt=\"Lexis Nexis Logo Design\" width=\"350\" height=\"148\"><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6091\" src=\"https:\/\/startwp.logomaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Sony-Ericsson-Logo.jpg\" alt=\"Sony Ericsson Logo Design\" width=\"250\" height=\"162\"><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6092\" src=\"https:\/\/startwp.logomaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Xerox-Logo-scaled.jpeg\" alt=\"Xerox Logo Design\" width=\"300\" height=\"93\"><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Will someone please tell us what memorable message these logos communicate?<\/p>\n<p>None of these logos were done on the cheap. They cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. Maybe millions. But they all look about the same. And they don<span style=\"color: #706e6e;\">\u2019<\/span>t really communicate a particular message.<\/p>\n<p>Here<span style=\"color: #706e6e;\">\u2019<\/span>s the secret about logos: They don<span style=\"color: #706e6e;\">\u2019<\/span>t communicate anything outside of what your brand\/product already stands for.<\/p>\n<p>True enough: some logos are better than others. But it has little to do with the price of the logo design.<\/p>\n<p>The Xerox logo above doesn<span style=\"color: #706e6e;\">\u2019<\/span>t get any of its meaning from the red ball or lowercase typeface. If this logo means anything to you at all, it is because you have had an experience with Xerox\u2014you<span style=\"color: #706e6e;\">\u2019<\/span>ve used one of their copiers, or you<span style=\"color: #706e6e;\">\u2019<\/span>ve used them for IT outsourcing, or you own one of their printers. But the logo? That doesn<span style=\"color: #706e6e;\">\u2019<\/span>t mean anything outside of your experience with the company.<\/p>\n<p>The same is true for Carat. And Sony Ericsson. And dozens of other logos with balls for icons.<\/p>\n<p>Logos are meaningless outside of an experience with the product they represent.<\/p>\n<p><strong>This is important:&nbsp;The product gives meaning to the logo, not the other way around.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>So while some people suggest that you should spend a bundle of money (and several weeks or months) having a logo design created, we say, buyer beware. <em>(Actually we say Bullsh*t but buyer beware sounds nicer.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Most startup businesses have just a few hundred dollars for marketing\u2014<em>for the entire year! <\/em>Why in the world would they spend it all on a logo when they also need a website, business cards, product packaging, email programs, and various other initiatives? The smart money says this is exactly when you should get a <em>cheap<\/em> logo.<\/p>\n<p><em>If, after your&nbsp;business is doing well, your cheap logo really is that bad, go back and fix it when you<span style=\"color: #706e6e;\">\u2019<\/span>ve got the money, but not when you<span style=\"color: #706e6e;\">\u2019<\/span>re just starting out and don&#8217;t know if you&#8217;ll succeed.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>What about the argument that inexpensive logos aren<span style=\"color: #706e6e;\">\u2019<\/span>t professional or they make you look like a startup? Or untrustworthy? Or forgettable?<\/p>\n<p>All of them are excellent examples of how an economizing entrepreneur can save some money and get a great logo\u2014if they<span style=\"color: #706e6e;\">\u2019<\/span>re willing to put in a little time and effort getting things just right.<\/p>\n<p>If your product or brand experience is cheap, then it doesn<span style=\"color: #706e6e;\">\u2019<\/span>t matter how much you spend on your logo, over time it will come to mean <span style=\"color: #706e6e;\">\u201c<\/span>cheap<span style=\"color: #706e6e;\">\u201d<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>If your product or brand experience is remarkable or inspiring or helpful, your logo will over time come to represent these values. Even if it was inexpensive.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes a cheap or inexpensive logo is exactly the right thing for your business.
