Spotify has had a green logo since the day it began offering its product to the public in 2008. In 2015, though, Spotify changed the shade of green in its logo. Its customers noticed the change immediately.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Even the shade of green you use can affect customers<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cCan you Spotify the difference? Music streaming service changes its logo&#8217;s shade of green &#8212; sparking Twitter outrage\u201d blared a headline in the <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Daily Mail <\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">newspaper. <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-3126083\/Spotify-s-new-logo-sparks-outrage-social-media.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" aria-label=\"(Opens a new window)\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The article<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> detailed Spotify\u2019s change from a \u201cyellow-green colour (left) to a slightly lighter, brighter shade\u201d and how hundreds of its customers protested the change. One customer said the change was important enough for her to consider ending her $10 per month contract with the company. Several other publications posted similar articles. The company issued a statement that its \u201cold broccoli green\u201d was \u201cdreary\u201d and \u201cthe new green has a little more pop.\u201d <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vulture.com\/2015\/06\/spotify-green-logo-change.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" aria-label=\"(Opens a new window)\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another article<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> says Spotify made the change in an effort to rebrand and appeal to millennials.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Spotify is still using its \u201cnew green\u201d logo, so the change paid off apparently. Perhaps, the protesters didn\u2019t like the sudden change, but they now accept and like the \u201cnew green\u201d logo. Perhaps, the protesters were always a minority. But both scenarios prove that the color of a logo or even the shade of a color matters.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Your company might not ever have 140 million regular customers like <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Spotify<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but a logo can help you boost your business. This article, the fourth in our series about logos, can help you decide whether a green logo will boost yours. The first article in the series explained the importance of logos and whether a company should use a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.logomaker.com\/blog\/2017\/08\/03\/red-logos-when-why-your-brand-should-use-them\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" aria-label=\"(Opens a new window)\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">red logo<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The second installment was about <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.logomaker.com\/blog\/2017\/08\/17\/orange-logos-spark-happiness-and-energy-should-you-use-one\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" aria-label=\"(Opens a new window)\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">orange logos<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The third was about <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.logomaker.com\/blog\/2017\/09\/07\/why-you-should-or-shouldnt-use-a-yellow-logo-for-your-business\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" aria-label=\"(Opens a new window)\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">yellow logos<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Different companies with different objectives should consider some colors and not others. Psychologically, warm colors are more apt to spur emotional behavior than other colors. Physically, they are more apt to spur an increased heart rate. In combination, they are more apt to spur people to be active and impulsive.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green, on the other hand, is a \u201ccool\u201d color, according to the article &#8220;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.arttherapyblog.com\/online\/color-psychology-psychologica-effects-of-colors\/#.WaeiFbKGPIW\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" aria-label=\"(Opens a new window)\">Color Psychology: The Emotional Effects of Colors,<\/a>&#8220;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0which also reports that blue and purple are cool colors. Psychologically, cool colors are more likely than other colors to make people calmer and less anxious. Physically, \u201cshort-wavelength\u201d colors such as blue and green caused people\u2019s heart rate to slow down, according to a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.researchgate.net\/publication\/272890833_The_influence_of_color_on_student_emotion_heart_rate_and_performance_in_learning_environments\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" aria-label=\"(Opens a new window)\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">study on the influence of color<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAre you looking for a peaceful and calming environment?\u201d the \u201cColor Psychology\u201d article asks its readers. \u201cYou might consider using green and\/or blue. These cool colors are typically considered restful. There is actually a bit of scientific logic applied to this \u2013 because the eye focuses the color green directly on the retina, it is said to be less strainful on your eye muscles.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green is also regarded as a color that people trust and makes them more secure. In fact, a 2003 study by <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.joehallock.com\/edu\/COM498\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" aria-label=\"(Opens a new window)\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">academic researcher Joe Hallock<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> sought to correlate nine qualities &#8212; courage, fear, frugality, fun, quality, reliability, security, speed, and trust &#8212; with different colors.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green scored best in security and trust and worst in fear and speed.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Kids love green<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The most surprising result about green based on Hallock\u2019s study is probably how much more popular it is among young people than old people.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Take a look at the &#8220;<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.joehallock.com\/edu\/COM498\/preferences.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" aria-label=\"(Opens a new window)\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Favorite Color by Age Group&#8221;<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0chart in this report. It shows that about 30 percent of people under 18 years say green is their favorite color, behind only blue. Green challenges purple as the second favorite color behind blue among the 19-24 and 25-35 age groups. In the 36-50 age group, green falls way behind purple and yellow challenges green for third. In the two oldest age groups, green is no one\u2019s favorite color.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Overall, green is men\u2019s second favorite color and women\u2019s third favorite color, according to <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Entrepreneur<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> magazine\u2019s &#8220;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Psychology of Color in Marketing and Branding&#8221;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0article. Green also gets very few least favorite color votes. Note that the favorite colors are all \u201ccool\u201d colors.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How does the research showing green is trusted and makes people comfortable and the research showing young people like green pertain to logos? Both results could be an opportunity for small companies in industries such as finance that depend on people trusting them as well as industries that want to cater to young people.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Green also conveys the following qualities, according to experts who have studied the importance of color:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fertility<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Growth<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Harmony<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Health<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hope<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Money<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nature<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Peace<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vitality<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAbove all, a green logo conveys the message that your company is environmentally friendly,\u201d reports the article &#8220;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.webpagefx.com\/logo-colors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" aria-label=\"(Opens a new window)\">The Hidden Meanings Behind Famous Logo Colors.<\/a>&#8220;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0\u201cThis explains why it is so popular with organic and vegetarian brands, as well as companies that strive for ethical practices. It depends.
