Anglophiles take heart\u2014lots of announcements from across the pond. Here&#8217;s what caught our eye over the past seven days:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/startwp.logomaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Screen-Shot-2012-03-09-at-10.30.16-AM-e1331314353304-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1252\" title=\"Highlight Logo\" src=\"https:\/\/startwp.logomaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Screen-Shot-2012-03-09-at-10.30.16-AM-e1331314353304-1.png\" alt=\"Worst Logo of all Time\" width=\"150\" height=\"48\" \/><\/a>This week we start off with the logo for a new location-based app called Highlight that tells you when people you know or people with similar interests are nearby, so you can connect. Some users are reporting it&#8217;s the hot thing at SXSW this year. But <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/is-this-the-worst-logo-of-all-time-2012-3?nr_email_referer=1&amp;utm_source=Triggermail&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_term=Business%20Insider%20Select&amp;utm_campaign=BI%20Select%20Recurring%202012-03-05\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" aria-label=\"(Opens a new window)\">Business Insider says their logo may be the worst ever<\/a>. What do you think? Yeah, it might induce a headache or two.<\/p>\n<p>A few weeks ago we pointed you to a video of a 5-year-old describing a set of logos. This week there&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=n9OZVWN_a0c\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" aria-label=\"(Opens a new window)\">a British version making the rounds<\/a>. Do kids sound cuter with an accent? Here&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=N4t3-__3MA0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" aria-label=\"(Opens a new window)\">the original for comparison<\/a> (which has been watched more than a million times).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/startwp.logomaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Screen-Shot-2012-03-09-at-10.43.57-AM-e1331315181764-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1255\" title=\"US Speedskating Logo\" src=\"https:\/\/startwp.logomaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Screen-Shot-2012-03-09-at-10.43.57-AM-e1331315181764-1.png\" alt=\"Speedskating Logo\" width=\"150\" height=\"103\" \/><\/a>Last week we saw a new logo for the USA Olympic basketball team. This week the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.underconsideration.com\/brandnew\/archives\/us_speedskating_shields_itself.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" aria-label=\"(Opens a new window)\">US Speedskating team unveiled it&#8217;s new look<\/a>. The &#8220;S&#8221; is for speed, or skating, or success, or something. We&#8217;re looking forward to seeing them skate at the next Winter Olympics.<\/p>\n<p>What happens when your <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tampabay.com\/news\/localgovernment\/dunedin-hires-st-petersburg-architect-for-new-fire-station\/1218170\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" aria-label=\"(Opens a new window)\">city commissions a new logo<\/a> only to discover at the last minute that it resembles a 11 year-old logo used by neighboring St. Petersburg Pier? West Palm beach is about to find out.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/startwp.logomaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Screen-Shot-2012-03-09-at-11.00.03-AM-e1331316343581-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1258\" title=\"Law Brain and Behavior Logo\" src=\"https:\/\/startwp.logomaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Screen-Shot-2012-03-09-at-11.00.03-AM-e1331316343581-1.png\" alt=\"CLBB Logo\" width=\"150\" height=\"122\" \/><\/a>Boston-based <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prweb.com\/releases\/prweb9241750.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" aria-label=\"(Opens a new window)\">Grant Marketing created a new logo<\/a> for the Massachusetts General Hospital&#8217;s Center for Law, Brain and Behavior. Holy cow, that&#8217;s a lot of words to get into a logo. With so much stuff to fit in, they did a pretty nice job. What do you think of the design?<\/p>\n<p>We saw logos pop up in a lot of unexpected places this week. There&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lehighvalleylive.com\/breaking-news\/index.ssf\/2012\/03\/east_allen_township_five-year-.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" aria-label=\"(Opens a new window)\">a Rey Mysterio logo on this 5 year-old&#8217;s prothetic leg<\/a> and he loves it. This <a href=\"http:\/\/readingeagle.com\/article.aspx?id=368751\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" aria-label=\"(Opens a new window)\">man wants a deer head tattooed on his molar<\/a> (sports logos are also popular). How about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/2012\/03\/05\/when-gaming-meets-interior-design\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" aria-label=\"(Opens a new window)\">logos as interior design<\/a> (this one is made up of game icons and looks pretty cool). Lastly, game company <a href=\"http:\/\/kotaku.com\/5890445\/pouring-booze-on-an-ice-logo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" aria-label=\"(Opens a new window)\">China Joy created their new logo out of ice<\/a>, then poured red wine on it. Apparently this is a popular PR stunt in China.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/startwp.logomaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Made_in_britain_logo-e1331317025710.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1261\" title=\"Made in Britain Logo\" src=\"https:\/\/startwp.logomaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Made_in_britain_logo-e1331317025710.jpg\" alt=\"Madeinbritain Logo\" width=\"150\" height=\"178\" \/><\/a>Britain&#8217;s Labor Leader, Ed Miliband is throwing his weight behind using the Made in Britain logo that was designed last year to help citizens understand where the products they consume come from. From the article, we learn that HP sauce (is anything more British than this?) isn&#8217;t made in Great Britain anymore. Bollocks! Next, they&#8217;ll be telling us the Queen is of German, not English, decent.<\/p>\n<p>This is pretty cool: the new station identifiers used by <a href=\"http:\/\/thenextweb.com\/dd\/2012\/03\/05\/sneak-a-peek-at-animal-planets-new-gorgeous-channel-id-design\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" aria-label=\"(Opens a new window)\">Animal Planet to display their logo<\/a> between programs. Of course, in the US that&#8217;s valuable advertising time, so we&#8217;re not likely to see them, except at the link. Which do you like better, bears or penguins?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/startwp.logomaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/New_Loddon_Logo-e1331317492526-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1262\" title=\"Loddon Brewery Logo\" src=\"https:\/\/startwp.logomaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/New_Loddon_Logo-e1331317492526-1.jpg\" alt=\"New Loddon Logo\" width=\"150\" height=\"117\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.eadt.co.uk\/business\/east_anglia_past_meets_present_at_glasswells_unveils_new_look_1_1228667\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" aria-label=\"(Opens a new window)\">Glasswells unveiled a new look<\/a> based on its first shop sign way back in 1946. That makes 5 British logo news items in a row. So let&#8217;s break the streak with this announcement of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hotelnewsresource.com\/article61771Miramar_Group_Unveils_Name_and_Logo_of_First_Small_Designer_Lifestyle_Hotel.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" aria-label=\"(Opens a new window)\">a new logo for Miramar Group&#8217;s Mira Moon hotel<\/a> in Wanchai.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/startwp.logomaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/mm-ve-dali15-e1331318077112.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1264\" title=\"Chupa Chups Logo\" src=\"https:\/\/startwp.logomaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/mm-ve-dali15-e1331318077112.jpg\" alt=\"Dali Logo\" width=\"150\" height=\"97\" \/><\/a>Did you know that when <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fastcodesign.com\/1669224\/salvador-dal-s-real-masterpiece-the-logo-for-chupa-chups-lollipops\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" aria-label=\"(Opens a new window)\">Salvador Dali wasn&#8217;t painting<\/a> melting clocks and heads propped up on stilts, he was creating logos? News to us too. But he did. For iconic Catalan lollipop maker Chupa Chups. Apparently, he was friends with the candy maker&#8217;s owner. We love stuff like this.<\/p>\n<p>Coming toward the end of our update we find this news item: the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.coastreporter.net\/article\/20120304\/SECHELT0101\/303049998\/-1\/sechelt\/hockley-wants-to-lose-logo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" aria-label=\"(Opens a new window)\">District of Sechelt spent $20,000 on a new logo<\/a> and tagline, only to decide, now the logo is in use, that it&#8217;s not representative of the community. Ouch. Worse, the new tagline, &#8220;Naturally Spirited&#8221; is used by a company that markets cocktails. Someone didn&#8217;t do their research. Now, where could Sechelt have gone to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.logomaker.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" aria-label=\"(Opens a new window)\">get a logo and save<\/a> about $19,950? Hey, guys, there&#8217;s still time.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/startwp.logomaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Google-Womens-Day-Logo-e1331313884631.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1250 alignleft\" title=\"Google Women's Day Logo\" src=\"https:\/\/startwp.logomaker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/Google-Womens-Day-Logo-e1331313884631.png\" alt=\"Women's Day Google Doodle\" width=\"150\" height=\"69\" \/><\/a>And this week&#8217;s Google logo re-draw (often called a Google Doodle) was to celebrate International Women&#8217;s Day.
